Coach Development Program (CDP)
Posted October 18th, 2014
We are looking for motivated CrossFitters who want to go beyond being just an athlete – so that you become someone who is not only knowledgeable and articulate about CrossFit, but you are capable of teaching a great CrossFit class as well!
The CrossFit Victus Coach Development Program (CDP) has been designed for the ongoing development of a fitness coach. We know there are many of you who are interested in coaching, without having to quit your job or change careers to do so. This program was designed to address both the person who is looking for a career change, and the person who just wants to learn more, share it with others, and teach an amazing class. The CDP is designed to develop a group of people that will become great substitute coaches, assistant coaches, and perhaps to eventually be part of the CrossFit Victus Coaching team or staff.
Goals of the CrossFit Victus Coach Development Program:
1. To provide our members with the opportunity to further their growth as an athlete and leader by becoming a CrossFit Victus Certified Coach.
2. To create a core group of student instructors that are both knowledgeable and proficient in the instruction of CrossFit movements and capable of teaching a fun and valuable CrossFit class.
3. There is no cost for this program this time, but you must be committed.
The CROSSFIT Victus Coach Development Program (CROSSFIT VICTUS CDP) was designed with two basic elements in mind:
1) Teach participants how to become good, solid CrossFit Coaches
2) Keep the rules and requirements to a minimum so that the program maintains an air of fun, lightness, growth, camaraderie, and learning.
We are only looking for people who are responsible, self-starters, motivated, and are ready to learn how to become part of our team and what makes our gym so special.
To become a coach through our program, the requirements are to complete the Coach Development Program, all associated practical & theory elements and the CrossFit (HQ) Level 1 Certification. We have designed this program so it can be completed within 3 months. The speed at which you move through the program will be determined by your background, experience and diligence in practice and execution. **Note: Completing the Coach Development Program in no way obligates you to being a full or part time coach/instructor at CrossFit Victus. Completion does not include a CrossFit (HQ) certification, which will also need to be attained. It also does not guarantee you a position as a regular instructor in the CrossFit Victus schedule.
Enrollment is not ongoing. We open CDP up periodically and keep a waiting list for when the next course opens up.
Your “Letter of Intent” - This letter/essay does not need to be long, but it should be from the heart. (This IS a requirement, and may be used to determine your eligibility for participation in the program.):
What does CF mean to you?
Why do you want to be an Coach?
Why would someone want you to be their coach?
What is your background (include all): education, profession, sports, and fitness?
What are your strengths & weaknesses?
You must be a current member at CrossFit Victus to enroll in the CDP
The CrossFit Victus CDP will meet each Saturday morning for a 2 hour masterclass. The class will be for CDP participants only, covering spotting and correcting movement faults, teaching to groups, safety and receiving constructive criticism on their ability as a coach.
