Getting Started Any new adventure can be daunting - which is why we will take the first step together.
Much of CrossFit can seem daunting and challenging at first. Once again this is where CrossFit heads away from your traditional gym and follows a much more coaching-intensive path.
The first step is to turn up to one of our scheduled free intro sessions at 5:30pm on Monday evenings. This is a fun one hour session so you can try CrossFit for the first time. We will walk you through CrossFit Victus Box (Gym), have a quick chat about "What is CrossFit and Fitness" and then you will do a CrossFit baseline workout to finish the session.
After this, it’s up to you whether you keep moving forward with your CrossFit journey or not. If so, it’s on to the Elements Program!
Over the course of 2 x 1 hour sessions (or one 2 hour session) we will introduce you to all the fundamental movements within CrossFit. The goal is not to make you into a black belt ninja of these movements, but to introduce you to our standards, our coaching style, cues and most importantly to start to teach you how to move.
You will also get to experience some short CrossFit WODs (workout of the day) to get a real taste of the fitness journey ahead of you. Finally we begin addressing some nutritional fundamentals - wave goodbye to your sugar laden pantry and learn how to eat like a human being - not an indulgent teenager.
At CrossFit we don't expect you to be an elite athlete, we expect you to be a real human being. That means you have good days and bad days, hopes and dreams, strengths and weaknesses. All we ask is that you leave your ego aside and give us your best - in return we will prove to you that deep down we are all athletes - regardless of size, shape, age or skill level.
Your First WODWhat to expect?
After you have completed the Elements program its time to step into the amazing new world which is the ‘Daily WOD’.
We are always open and friendly to new-comers. We promote a family-like atmosphere of support and camaraderie amongst our members. Someone will undoubtedly take you under their wing and help you through your first session. Everyone remembers what it was like at their first class and we all want to see each other succeed.
We typically start with a 15 minute warm-up, mobility and skills, then proceed to our “Workout of the Day” (WOD).
The WOD can consist of anything from skills such as gymnastics or olympic lifting. As well as rowing and running, pushing and pulling, pressing and throwing . Our specialty is not specialising; every day is a completely different workout. Two main rules you must abide by: Cheer on your fellow Crossfitter, and high fives and fist bumps are compulsory!
Frequently Asked Questions
Aren't I too "xxxx" for CrossFit?
We have all walks of life in our gym. You may walk in feeling too fat, injured, old, or out of shape but keep on walking in that door three or more times a week and you will be on the fast track to fitness. How we handle new clients is to guide through workouts and use modifications when necessary. Each Daily WOD (workout of the day) is 'scaled' accordingly, to meet the individual ability of each member of the group. Our coaches work with you to make the necessary changes to each workout so it can be completed safely, and still give you maximum results.
I heard that CrossFit is really hard, is it too hard for me?
CrossFit is as hard as you make it. We encourage people to push to the limits of their own tolerances but only you can make the most out of your own workouts with the amount of work you put into them.
I’m a runner, netballer, footballer, golfer, swimmer etc. Why should I do CrossFit?
Every specialized athlete has clear deficiencies. CrossFit will target your weaknesses and improving these areas will make you a dramatically better sport-specific athlete.
I’ve heard CrossFit is dangerous?
Not at all. We operate on a principle of mechanics first, then consistency, then intensity. First, we teach you the mechanics of a movement. This starts in our Fundamentals Course, and continues with a refresher on the proper mechanics of a movement before each workout.
Second, we look for you to display the correct mechanics—consistently. If you can’t get consistency, we lower the weight or otherwise alter the required movement so you are capable of moving the weight correctly and consistently.
Finally, after you have the mechanics and consistency with those movements, we introduce you to intensity. We never throw you into something you aren't ready for, and you are always in control. We are here to lead and instruct you, but you always have the option to say “I’m not ready for that.” Our expert trainers are always on-hand teaching the correct movements, scaling them to the appropriate level for each athlete, and protecting, motivating and guiding our athletes during the workout.
